The cause of the 2025 world crisis lies in lack of democracy. The booklet has the structure of the Divina Commedia, with Paradise (what to aspire), Hell (to avoid) and Purgatory (the pain for the Ukraine war). The book presents facts and thoughts, and the reader is invited to make up one's own mind, guided by the spirits of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John Maynard Keyes, and Jan Tinbergen. (1) The USA, UK and France are only proto-democratic. Donald Trump does not really have the democratic mandate that he claims to have. He is turning the USA into an authoritarian state for which the proper term is fascism. The world better puts the USA into containment. The American people are advised to change the electoral system to equal or proportional representation, and to impeach Trump and Vance because of the January 6 2021 insurrection (for which the 2nd impeachment in 2021 wasn't handled well). The Ukraine war can be resolved by the UN Security Council - and when an agreement is reached that doesn't require a vote, then the USA cannot veto it. Trump's bluff about NATO can be called, since the USA will not want to be alone when faced with China and Russia and the rest of the world. (2) Our governments obstruct economic co-ordination. Our democracy relies on the checks and balances of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary branches of government. These allow too much room for politicians to manipulate information. The solution is an Economic Supreme Court (ESC) based in science but still embedded within democracy. This will be the Epistemic branch that checks the quality of the information. European countries do not have to transfer sovereignty to Brussels but politicians have to transfer power to their national ESC. When countries have their own ESCs, then these can co-ordinate in scientific manner, and they can guide their countries to a form of world government. (3) The current problems in finance, banking and national debt are only symptoms. The underlying economic problem is stagflation, i.e. a dismal combination of unemployment and inflation. In 1980-2007 governments tried to solve stagflation by deregulating (financial) markets. With new regulations the underlying stagflation has reared its ugly head again. (4) Let there be a World Central Bank with world money that can use a carbon tax. This relieves the US dollar from the burden of being the major reserve currency. The carbon tax helps to stop climate change and the proceeds can be used to develop clean energy. This is a small booklet. It summarizes scientific results with references to the proofs elsewhere. The book also takes a stand against American fascism and Chinese and Russian authoritarianism, so that parts read as a political pamphlet. The author was at the Dutch Central Planning Bureau in 1982-1991 where his analysis met with censorship. After 15 years of protest he started advising to boycott Holland till the censorship has been lifted. The world may be warned about former Dutch prime minister and now NATO head Mark Rutte.
